P. Elaine Sharpe presents a new body of work, engaging with concepts of presence, absence, and regimes of surveillance. In London, Paris, Amsterdam, and Niagara Falls, Sharpe hired private investigators to follow her movements for one day. The investigators were provided with instructions to take photographs of the places she had been, though at night when she was no longer present. By addressing the ambiguous and indeterminate nature of evidence and documentation, Sharpe creates a space where expectations of mutal autonomy for the real and the fictive collapse.

P. Elaine Sharpe is a candidate for the degree of Master of Fine Arts at York University. Each year the AGYU hosts two thesis exhibitions of graduate students from York University’s Department of Visual Arts. These exhibitions, profiling some of York University’s leading artists, are an extension of the AGYU’s commitment to the development of Canada’s visual arts professionals.
