Atsmon Ganor’s exhibition Onenoise is composed of drawings, video projection, and map-works that explore the ways history and geography are played out on the body. For Ganor, the body is the space of history and through the body performative aspects of sexuality, gender and identity form narratives and become a means of communication.

Ganor’s large-scale wax wall drawings of human figures delineate territories: the lines of the body, raised on the wall, are suggestive of borders. The contours and folds of the landscape in Ganor’s map works suggest the figure by echoing the shapes and lines of the human body, rather than mimicking its form. Here Ganor merges the political and territorial with the fantastic.

Atsmon Ganor is a candidate for the degree of Master of Fine Arts at York University. His work has been included in solo and group exhibitions in Canada, Europe, and Israel, including the Noga Gallery of Contemporary Art and the Givon Gallery in Tel Aviv, Janco-Dada Museum in Ein-Hod, Muhka in Antwerp, and the Red Head Gallery, Toronto. Atsmon Ganor lives and works in Tel Aviv and Toronto.

Each year the AGYU hosts two thesis exhibitions of graduate students from York University’s Department of Visual Arts. These exhibitions, profiling some of York University’s leading artists, are an extension of the AGYU’s commitment to the development of Canada’s visual arts professionals.
