Stacey Lancaster‘s work addresses the idea that location can be something ambiguous and indeterminate. What initally began as her attempt to map physical or geographical locations, evolved into a process of mapping less tangible spaces. Her collection of videos, photographs and objects documents a series of apparently disparate ‘site’ in which references to popular culture, architecture and landscpae are evident. Lancaster’s work constructs a space which is at the intersection of the visible and the invisible, collapsing any expectation of mutual autonomy for the real and the fictive, the placed and the displaced, the complicit and the resistant.

The Art Gallery of York University is one of the few university galleries in Canada that offers its resources to students enrolled in the graduate programs in Visual Arts. Each year, the AGYU hosts two MFA thesis exhbitions. These exhibitions showcase the work of advanced students in this program, preparing them for their ongoing careers. The MFA Thesis Exhibitions are part of an endeavour by the AGYU to extend our relationship with the Faculty of Graduate Studies, thereby enriching our commitment to the development of Canada’ s future professionals.
