AGYU and the Jane Finch Community Research Partnership were excited to present the Jane Finch Showcase on Instagram Live @a_g_y_u  on April 12 from 6 – 8:30 pm. This performance showcase and series of conversations was hosted by Jane Finch R&B singers and rappers Kibra, Nathan Baya, and Terence Penny. It was presented to amplify the Jane Finch Community Research Partnership, an online resource establishing protocols for scholars, educators, and artists researching Jane Finch communities. The event featured stellar performances by a talented lineup of artists including Kibra, Nathan Baya, Terence Penny, Kareem Bennett, Tracey Kayy, S!sha, and Zenesoul.

The Jane Finch Showcase was an access point that explored some of themes and concerns presented at the online panel Ethical Accessible Research Data Management for the Jane Finch Community in 2021. That event featured Abena Offeh-Gyimah, Farwa Arshad, and Shenali Don, who spoke about their involvement in developing training modules for academics researching Jane Finch communities, a Jane Finch Research Collection website, as well as a digital repository for past research and scholarship about the neighbourhood. Developed in consultation with Jane Finch residents, these connected projects were committed to educating and encouraging researchers to adopt ethical and equitable research methods that move beyond past harmful patterns of objectification and stigmatization of the neighbourhood and its community members.

The Jane Finch Showcase was organized by the Art Gallery of York University and Jane Finch Community Research Partnership in conversation with Kibra, Terence Penny, Nathan Baya, Abena Offeh-Gyimah, Shenali Don, Farwa Arshad, and Shon Williams.

Thank you to Patricia E. Perkins, Professor in the Faculty of Environmental and Urban Change at York University, for helping to establish this collaboration and Allyson Adley, collections and education assistant at AGYU, for developing and facilitating these conversations and performances.
