In the Pavilion

Teaming up with Jane Street Speaks and Wheel It Studio’s Mobile Recording Studio, we are excited to present our March Showcase hosted by Nathan Baya featuring Rezmade, Txnic, and Maymuna Mohamed with a set by EnzoMezu.

Rezmade and Txnic are both hip hop artists who have been active members of Wheel it Studios Mobile recording studio Program. This program, co-founded and led by award-winning multi-instrumentalist producer, spoken-word poet, arts educator, and community worker Ruben ‘Beny’ Esguerra, aims to reduce barriers and increase access to music recording resources, equipment, and mentorship for artists from Jane Finch and beyond. Wheel It Studios is dedicated to fostering the artistic development and growth of emerging hip hop artists through an ongoing program that supports collaborative and solo song writing, recording, and music video production. We also continue our commitment to foregrounding and celebrating artists from the West end of the city by featuring artists like spoken word poet Maymuna Mohamed in our March Showcase.

Jane Street Speaks has a remarkable commitment and track record of supporting and celebrating new generations of multidisciplinary artists through an ongoing program of open mic events and workshops, providing an invaluable educational and performance platform for emerging artists across the city. We feel strongly aligned with Jane Street Speaks in its mission and dedication to creating enriching and challenging artistic development opportunities that foster the growth and advancement of up-and-coming artists.

EnzoMezu, formerly known as Kappa Mezu, is a Toronto-based DJ. Kappa started volunteering on CIUT radio’s MasterPlan show and has DJ’d for Artscape programs, the Royal Ontario Museum, TIFF, Urban Arts Culture Shock Festival, and Toronto’s 2015 Manifesto 15, where he was one of four headlining DJs.

Born in Saugeen Ontario, Rezmade is a Mohawk and Ojibway rapper committed to writing and performing conscious hip hop. He is a member of the latest cohort of Wheel It Studios, contributing to the songs How Can I? and Revolution, which are both featured on Wheel It Studios new collaborative album, We Still Here. Rezmade’s music is a testament to Indigenous resurgence and an homage to Indigenous resistance against land theft, resource extraction, and the effects of cultural genocide.

Txnic is a versatile Canadian artist who blends hip hop, jazz, and R&B into smooth, soulful compositions exploring profound themes through a nuanced perspective. Txnic’s meticulous lyrics address societal issues and inner truths with sensitivity. He has headlined various shows and performed at venues like the ROM and Nathan Phillips Square and for organizations such as Unity Charity and Urban Arts.
